Fun fact: my kids now call butterflies Kamillah. Lol
Kamillah the Butterfly is a book about a caterpillar called Kamillah, as she tried to navigate life’s unexpected changes.
Becoming a Butterfly is the natural order of evolvement for caterpillars, but Kamillah didn’t know this when her body started to change. With the help of her friend, Bilkis, she was able to go through this change and emerged into a beautiful Butterfly.
I find the storyline simple and I was going to categorise the book as just “fun to read” till I realised the lesson that lies within this story.
Our lives as humans have been decreed to go through changes. But when these changes begin, we sometimes despair. Especially if it’s a change that we are uncertain of its outcome.
But what happens when we rely on our ultimate ‘friend’ Allah and accept the change with confidence in Him? We emerge on the other side of our change, becoming a better person, and if Allah wills, a more beautiful soul.
This is what my adult mind saw in the story of Kamillah. And I tried to use this as a lesson for my kids. That sometimes changes can be scary, but rely on Allah and you’ll emerge better than you were before.
Kamillah the Butterfly is available for purchase on the Djarabi Kitabs Publishing website, Amazon USA, and Amazon UK.
